The Dragonlord Chronicles I read this trilogy I like this series because it features dragons as some of the main characters of the story. It shows them more as creatures with feelings and thoughts rather than the mindless beasts that every fantasy hero has to kill.
Dreamsnake is a wonderful book about a strong woman healer.
The Mists of Avalona feminist retelling of Arthurian legend. My personal favorite!
Firebrand another one by Marion Zimmer Bradley. LIke The Mists of Avalon, this is a re-telling of a myth from a female perspective. THis one is about the Trojan War.
The Crystal Singer Series is a fascinating set of stories about a strong-willed woman with perfect pitch. A brilliantly illuminated alien landscape and striking human interactions.
The Sword of Shannara series was Brooks' first trilogy. I liked these books because each book was a complete story unto itself, unlike his second series The Heritage of Shannara which I don't recommend reading. It is classic fantasy, based heavily on Tolkien but that's okay, because it was well done.
First King of Shannara is a pre-quel to the Sword of Shannara series which I just finished reading. This hearkens back to his early works of grand adventure and world-shattering events.
The Tarzan books are my favorite series of Burroughs especially the first five or so books, though all of them were good. They are much more in depth with charcter development than the typical Tarzan movie. -Storm
The Belgariad Series - The thing I liked best about these books was the amount of tension and high, epic adventure (especially in The Belgariad Series). I also liked the fact that the characters were down to earth rather than lofty hero/ines. Eddings included routine events such as eating dinner in the stories, making the characters more real. -Storm
